God-Honoring Elder Meetings

When one considers elders’ meetings, what comes to mind? For some, maybe their experience has been one of strife and infighting. For others, the image of a corporate boardroom comes to mind. And yet, for some men their mind goes to a group of passive men who subject themselves to one dominant man who drives the decision-making process for the church. These scenarios may seem outrageous, but they are far too common in churches. But is it possible for an elder meeting to be carried out in way that, regardless of the issues at hand and even potential disagreements, the leadership of Christ’s church can be conducted in a God-honoring way? In this video, Rocky Wyatt and Tom Pennington discuss the key aspects of God-honoring elder meetings in the local church.

The Biblical Mandate to Train Elders

Does the Scripture mandate that pastors and elders train future pastors and elders in the local church? If you walked into the majority of churches today, the response to that question may come with some level of uncertainty. Most churches choose to send their men off to receive ministry training. The extent of their commitment ends with a letter of recommendation and possibly some financial support. But is this the model the Bible lays out? Join Tom Pennington as he teaches on 2 Timothy 2:2, which lays the out the mandate for pastors and elders to train the next generation of pastors and elders in the local church.
