Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul observes them.
Psalm 119:129
It has often been debated what the greatest wonders of the world really are. Mankind has accomplished incredible artistic and architectural feats over the course of history. There are monuments today that attract the attention of millions who travel the world to see their beauty and complexity.
And yet there is one “wonder” that exceeds them all. There is a wonder that was not created by the hands of a man. It is the living and abiding word of God (1 Pet 1:23). Paul describes the Bible as that which is inspired by God, that is “God-breathed” (2 Tim. 3:16). The word of God was not made by an act of the human will. It was men who were moved by the Spirit of God who recorded the words of God (2 Pet. 1:20-21). The Bible is a gift that has been provided by the Creator of the universe for the benefit of His creation. It is the only book that has ever existed, or will ever exist, that is absolute truth. It is the only resource that provides the answers to life’s great questions. It is the only resource that helps us to know Who the Creator is and how we can know Him personally.
Fellow Christians, the Bible is the ultimate wonder. It is a source to delight in, to be always reminded of its beauty. And our response must be that of the psalmist: we want to observe all that our Creator teaches us.
