I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies.
Psalm 119:125
There is a great distinction between a person who is an acquaintance and a servant. The level of commitment is vastly different. As an acquaintance, you may have a relationship, but that relationship is not defined by a clear commitment. When the psalmist identifies himself as God’s servant, he is acknowledging that his life is in submission to God.
Far too many people who claim to be Christians could not use the word “servant” to describe their lives. They may know a great deal of biblical truth, they may be able to quote Scripture, they may faithfully attend church, but they do not live as servants of God.
One of the characteristics of a servant is their desire to both know and understand biblical truth. Comprehension and discernment are important to the servants of God. Knowledge is not the ultimate goal; it is to grasp what God means and how it is to impact the believer’s life. It is essential to know and understand the truth so that we can live as faithful servants.
Do you identify as a servant of God? One of the ways to know is how you respond to the truth of God’s word.
