Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever mine.
Psalm 119:98
We have already learned a great deal about the psalmist’s enemies.
v. 23 princes sit and talk against me
v. 42 they reproach me
v. 51 the arrogant utterly deride me
v. 61 the cords of the wicked have encircled me
v. 69 the arrogant forged a lie against me
v. 78 they subvert me with a lie
v. 84 they persecute me
v. 85 the arrogant have dug pits for me
v. 86 they have persecuted me with a lie
v. 87 they almost destroyed me on the earth
v. 95 the wicked wait for me to destroy me
The psalmist did not have an easy life. Yet, in the midst of intense and relentless opposition, he had confidence that the Lord would give him the wisdom needed to deal with his enemies. This wisdom is available to all believers who will completely rely on the truth of God’s word.
For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity…
