I have sworn and I will confirm it, that I will keep Your righteous ordinances.
Psalm 119:106
Remember what verse 105 teaches:
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105
The fact that God’s word is a lamp and a light is of no value if we do not use it as it is intended!
The psalmist has seriously considered the value of God’s word and has made an internal commitment to keep the righteous ordinances of God. Of course, this is the only reasonable course of action if you understand the preciousness of God’s word.
Nevertheless, it is amazing how many people can talk about how wonderful and necessary God’s word is, yet they have not responded with the same commitment as the psalmist. It is as though they believe that being able to talk about the greatness of God’s word is sufficient. James warns us about this dangerous thinking!
But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
James 1:22
The truth is, if we understand and believe in the value of God’s word and the truth of God’s word, we will respond in obedience.
For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
