I hate those who are double-minded, but I love Your law.
Psalm 119:113
The psalmist has often spoken of his love and commitment to the word of God. It is important to note that a true love for God and His word must result in a hatred of all that is in opposition to God and His word.
The word “double-minded” can be defined as “divided” or “half-hearted.” It is a picture of a person who will speak of their relationship with God and yet demonstrate a love for the world. They are divided in their affections.
We are often warned about the dangers of living with competing loves.
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
1 John 2:15–16
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
Matthew 6:24
Understand that if you love God with a supreme love, you will have a hatred of all that opposes Him. Consider your life. Does it reflect both an appropriate love and hatred?
