I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes forever, even to the end.
Psalm 119:112
Knowledge without practice may be the cause of the greatest deception known to mankind. How many will one day stand before the Lord with absolute confidence, only to find that their knowledge of the truth results in their condemnation. After all, their knowledge is sufficient for them to answer the Bible questions, but it was never integrated into their lives in practical obedience.
Our Lord addresses this issue with these words:
“Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:26–27
The word of God was making a profound difference in the life of the psalmist. They were not simply words to learn or verses to memorize. They were truths that must be obeyed. The psalmist labored consistently and diligently to perform the work of the Lord. His obedience was certainly a reflection of his love for God and love for God’s word.
The Apostle John reminds us that true conversion leads to loving obedience.
“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.”
John 14:15
