Polar Opposites (Psalm 119:104)

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105

I live in the mountains just outside of Westcliffe, Colorado. This area is designated a dark sky community. They have gone to great lengths to limit the amount of light that is permitted. On a moonless night, it is virtually impossible to see any trails. On the other hand, when it is incredibly dark, a small amount of light makes a massive difference!

We live in an extremely dark world. However, if you have come to know Christ as your Lord and Savior, you have been delivered from this darkness.

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son…
Colossians 1:13

We now have the ability to read and understand the word of God. It is God’s word that guides our way and keeps us on the right path.

You can imagine how dangerous it would be to try to walk on the mountain paths of Colorado when it is dark and without any source of light. It would be absolutely foolish. You could easily walk right into the path of a bear or a mountain lion, or you could walk off a cliff.

It is certainly more dangerous for a Christian to try to walk through this life without the light of God’s word. There are pitfalls everywhere and an enemy that would absolutely delight in our destruction.

We can be sure that we are protected from the darkness when we follow Jesus. Of course, we follow Jesus by following His word!

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.”
John 8:12
