The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I have not gone astray from Your precepts.
Psalm 119:110
The wicked have always looked for ways to deceive those who are followers of God. Since they have no moral compass, they will use any avenue to deceive God’s children.
Consider the warning that Peter gives to us:
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
2 Peter 2:1–3
All Christians must be aware of the fact that the enemy is constantly laying traps, seeking to sow seeds of discord and false teaching. The Apostle John reminds us that many who are seeking to deceive us have actually infiltrated the church.
They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.
1 John 2:19
Our protection is found in God’s word. We must follow the pattern of the psalmist by standing firm in the precepts of God.
The Apostle Paul says it this way:
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
